I am a Berlin-based journalist, documentary filmmaker, and author specializing in artificial intelligence, new technology and its impact on society. Since February 2021, I have been the Chief Technology Correspondent for Deutsche Welle (DW), Germany's international public broadcaster. In September 2024, my book, 'Der Gedanken-Code' (The Mind Code,) will be published by German publisher C.H. Beck.I began covering AI in the mid-2010s when it was still largely considered "blue sky research" and tech reporting was somewhat niche. In January 2018, Politico became the first major publication in the world to appoint me as its full-time AI Correspondent.I hold a master's degree in political journalism from Columbia University's Journalism School, a master's degree in literature from New York University, and a bachelor's degree in media studies from Humboldt University in Berlin. I am also an alumnus of Deutsche Welle's 18-month journalism fellowship and a former Fulbright Scholar.In addition to my work with DW and Politico, my reporting has appeared in Der Spiegel, Deutschlandfunk, The New York Times, Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung, and The Intercept. I have received several awards for my reporting, including the U.S. Foreign Press Association's National Award.
