As a Captain you are in charge of the duties assigned to you and the crew. For SunExpress Deutschland GmbH on the A-330 these duties are the challenging long-haul operation we run for Eurowings from Köln, Dusseldorf, Frankfurt & Munchen with destinations in Asia (BKK - HKT), Middle East (IKA, DWC, SLL), Africa (MRU, WDH, CPT), Caribbean (MBJ, HAV, VRA, POP, PUJ, LRM, SDQ, BGI) and North America (BOS, MIA, LAS, MCO, SEA, PHX). In these low-cost long-haul operations you fly at the hardest hours of the day with the minimum of crew and no crewrest, which makes the flights even more challenging. Keeping a good athmosphere is the key to keep the crew motivated and get the job done.

As a Captain you are in charge of the duties assigned to you and the crew. For SunExpress that could be either International flights for SunExpress to Europe, Domestic flights in Turkey for Anadolujet or International and Domestic flights for Turkish Airlines. The challenge is to commit to the different airlines service standard, operate according schedule and have save flights to sometimes challenging airports and circumstances.

Management, Auditting and Aviation Training

As the Postholder Crew Training you are responsible and accountable for all training of crew and staff. With most of the training conducted "​in-house" it is a challenge to meet the requirements, instruct the instructors, issue remedial training if needed and still make sure that the level of competence is well above the legal minimum requirement and meets our own standards. Training was carried out for Flight Crew, Cabin Crew, Groundstaff including crew planners and dispatchers as well as internal auditors to meet the quality requirements. During national and international audits of Dutch CAA and EASA only minor findings that could easily and quickly be corrected were brought to our attention.As the Deputy Postholder Flight Operation you act as the back-up for the Postholder Flight Operation. With the lean management and lean crew composition it meant that very often this back-up was needed. That is why I was also responsible for introducing the new MEL-system into the company, the introduction of the third aircraft, leading the EASA audit for both Crew Training and Flight Operation.Running an operation like Amsterdam Airlines meant for the managers to be available 24/7 and have an extensive flexibility. Working in the management with different nationalities was another challenge, one that was coped well with. The contact within the management and from the management to all our employees was friendly, compassionate but most of all professional.

As Chief Flight Instructor you're responsible for the daily operation of the Flight Department, including scheduling of flights, simulatorsessions and maintenance in correlation with the Groundshool. Furthermore you have to track each and individual student regarding their progress in the training. The NLS had 17 aircraft, 4 simualtors, 20 (simluator)-instructors and an avarage of 80 students a year. The training consisted of a fully intergrated Ab Initio ATPL course.
