Repositioning the value proposition of Procurement to focus on marketing outcomes through the application of best in class procurement practice and process

A newly created role to transform the capability & contribution of Procurement across the Asia Pacific & Japan region. Focused Customer engagement & partnering has led to much stronger alignment with access & influence secured in critical & previously untouched areas of the Business. Without doubt the most significant change has been customer recognition for a far broader value contribution from Procurement with top line revenue delivery. In 2015 one of my team won the Future Leader Award at the Procurement Leaders World Procurement Congress in London. The youngest ever winner and first Asian winner of this prestigious accolade.

Responsible for a Procurement team of 70 staff covering 15 markets. We support GSK’s commercial operations across Pharmaceuticals, Consumer Healthcare, Research & Development (R&D), and Vaccines which represent an annual expenditure of £550m. This spend is forecasted to increase by 50% within 4 years.Over the past 7 years, I've built the function while developing & implementing a Procurement Change Management Programme. This has transformed our Customer alignment & Procurement capability (90% of the people I inherited have changed). My team has progressively embedded savings benefits from our strategies which will deliver £45m in annualized savings during 2013 with 80% built into the Commercial P&L (more than any other team in GSK). Additionally, I'm a champion for value-add Procurement which is why my team goes above and beyond to support our customers on numerous top line projects such as Gross to Net & Government Tenders.We have increased our value delivery to the Business by 600% over the previous 7 years & now have 3 of the top 5 Procurement markets within GSK in terms of delivery. In 2010 we established the first Procurement Graduate Programme in Asia Pacific with a clear vision of developing a sustainable pipeline of Asian talent & best in class Procurement in the region. We now secure twice as many applicants annually for our Procurement Programme than Marketing & Sales combined & this year are exporting Asian Procurement talent to Europe.Very active within the Procurement community, particularly within the Asia-Pac region. Consistently participate and speak at Procurement conferences and other relevant shared services groups.

Based in London, but spent significant time working within the Middle East and African regions. Responsible for all strategic sourcing activity throughout 12 markets with an annual spend of £150m covering Pharmaceuticals & Consumer Healthcare.Developed and augmented procurement capability within my team with focus on: strategic planning, supplier relationship management (SRM), category and performance management, financial analysis and price modeling.Lead an extensive internal customer alignment program to gain access to key Commercial spends (notably Media). Increased annual savings delivery 300% in 2 years (£5m to £15m) and for the first time at GSK built savings into the Commercial P&L. Established robust Category Management and team structures with key talent and succession planning in place.

Global responsibility for Procurement Strategy on selected key raw materials & packaging components for Brewing Operations across the UK, Ireland, Africa & Asia for Guinness Brewing Worldwide.Created and implemented supplier strategy for launch of Canned Draught Guinness. Developed global supplier umbrella for glass, cans, print, labels & foils. Set up the Procurement operation in Malaysia to support growing regional demand and foundation for low cost sourcing. Developed supply continuity strategy to mitigate Nigeria import ban on Malt.

Responsible for managing the portfolio of brewing raw materials: hops, brewing sugars, malt and barley for Grand Metropolitan’s network of 13 Breweries across the UKConsolidated supply base and developed preferred supplier network for key raw materials. Implemented a strategy to reduce the sugar and malted barley content in brewing products by replacing these with glucose & wheat delivering important cost savings without detriment to product quality. Concurrently expanded core supply base for European hops and brewing sugars to support the evolving product portfolio and increased preference for European style lagers.

Within the Corporate Graduate Programme of Beecham Food and Drink Division , I spent 2 years rotating across Manufacturing, Commercial, Supply Chain & Procurement. Beecham was the largest soft drink manufacturer in the UK in addition to their healthcare & consumer portfolio.Upon programme graduation, I joined as a permanent Citrus Buyer. I developed a North and South Hemisphere strategy to secure juices from Argentina, Brazil & South Africa to optimize leverage, risk mitigation while providing secure supply against the traditional markets of Italy, Israel Sicily, Spain & the US. This dual hemisphere strategy provided insulation against crop failures (Florida Freeze) and trade embargoes (Falklands War).
