I have extensive experience in the sector at a senior management level, and a strong record of working with government and advocating for libraries. I am an effective communicator and enjoy the opportunity to deliver participatory and inclusive programs with robust and practical outcomes. I also thrive on working with colleagues, giving them the skills and confidence to make positive change.I am committed to actively participating in my profession, both in Australia and overseas. I am a past President and Fellow of the Australian Library and Information Association (ALIA); past Chair of the Australian Public Library Alliance (APLA); and have recently completed my third and final term as a member of the Library Council of New South Wales. I am an engaged affiliate of the International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions (IFLA), and have held a number of elected positions over the past decade including Chair of Division 1 (ex officio member of the Governing Board). I am currently Chair of Professional Division E with responsibility for The School Libraries, Indigenous Matters, Information Literacy, Libraries for Children and Young Adults, Literacy and Reading, Reference and Information Services and Library History Sections.I have extensive networks within Australia and overseas and a keen understanding of the environment in which they operate. My experience has provided exposure to best practice examples and solutions that libraries everywhere can adapt.I am located on beautiful Bruny Island, Tasmania – just to the south of Hobart.
