In May 2015 we published a research report: “Parts Without a Whole? – The Current State of Design Thinking Practice in Organizations.” As we knew that we had just scratched the tip of an iceberg and that design thinking is best grasped when one looks at its different forms of appropriation, we decided to showcase such kind of stories in more detail. The website therefore serves as an experiment by which we hope to contribute to a more differentiated understanding of the manifoldness of design thinking and what it becomes in practice. Thisisdesignthinking.net is by no means a normative medium. We merely showcase what organizations and individuals are doing when they say, they practice design thinking.

Examining design thinkings impact and diffusion in organizations worldwide within the HPDTRP (HPI-Stanford Design Thinking Research Program). The initiative is funded by the Hasso-Plattner-Förderstiftung (Hasso Plattner Trust) and seeks to engage multidisciplinary research teams at HPI and Stanford University with divergent backgrounds in science, engineering, design, and the humanities to scientifically investigate the phenomena of innovation in its many holistic dimensions.
