After the acquisition of Voxtron by Enghouse Interactive, I continued my job as Managing Director in combination with Sales.

Although I have always enjoyed programming, it was time for a new step. In 1998 I took over General Management for the Belgian organization. Those were the days we started developing Telebutler, a graphical tool for fast and easy implementation of interactive voice response projects. Voxtron won its first global award with it. Based on this succes Voxtron started to build a European network of sales partners. In 2001 we were hit hard by the crisis resulting from the .com bubble and the terrorist attack on the twin towers. Perseverance was the message. Voxtron made it first steps in call center software. That turned out to be a great succes, resulting in the creation of Voxtron Communication Center. VCC grew fast to a multi channel routing solution for up to a couple of thousands agents.

At Voxtron, we continued with the same type of projects as we used to do with Lernout & Hauspie: interactive voice response and voice mail. To have a product on our own, and not being dependend on 3rd party software, we started development of Vocal Cords. Besides this product development we realized new projects. After financial institutions embraced the technology, other sectors also saw the benefits of interactive voice response systems. Electrabel partly switched to such systems for checking meter readings (and avoiding in such way the expensive home visits).

Lernout & Hauspie needs no introduction. My job interview was conducted by Jo Lernout, I will never forget. As a C programmer, I worked on multiple interactive voice response systems. In those days without mobile phones, phone banking was very hot. Calling a number and getting your balance and even make a money transfer was very convenient. Kredietbank, ASLK, NMKN, BAC, Paribas, IPPA... to name a few were customers of us.

Komatsu is a Japanese manufacturer of construction equipment such as excavators, wheel loaders, dump trucks, crawler dozers...At Komatsu, I took my first steps as a programmer. I helped build the management software for components on a Unisys mainframe.

Military service, a blissful time between university and first work experience.
