About Jan-Willem Van Ree

As a broad orientated musicologist I am active in different fields of Dutch musical life. I am contracted as artistic director of the Edesche Concertzaal (www.edescheconcertzaal.nl). As a freelancer I am writing on music at the AVROTROS Vrijdagoncert in TivoliVredenburg and lecturing at the Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra and the Uytenbogaertcentrum in The Hague.My academical interests are devoloping in different directions. Recently I finished my first book related to local music history. The town council of Ede granted me a research project about 600 years local music practise in and around the community of Ede. The result is published in the series 'Historische Cahiers'​ (Historical Journals) presented on Nov. 28, 2024.

Bij de Centrale Discotheek Rotterdam / Muziekweb was ik werkzaam op de Informatieafdeling. Dit is het kloppende hart van de CDR. Hier was ik verantwoordelijk voor het (retro)catalogiseren van oude en nieuwe cd's, die vervolgens zijn terug te vinden op www.muziekweb.nlVoor Muziekweb.nl schreef ik cd-recensies, werkbeschrijvingen en componistenbiografieën. Ook hield ik mij bezig met actuele thema’s in de vorm van digitale tijdlijnen, webwijzers en folders. Binnen het klassieke segment schreef ik veel over muziek van de late negentiende eeuw tot nu. In het bijzonder muziek van Sweelinck, Sibelius, Rachmaninov, Janácek, Bartók, Kodály, Orff, Escher, Lutoslawski, Kurtág, Ligeti en Magnus Lindberg, Kaija Saariaho, Erkki-Sven Tüür.Ook heb ik projectmatige bijdragen geleverd aan Kindermuziekweb.
