CurrentProvide case management support to partners and associates with insurance defence work, particularly motor vehicle accident, life and disability, aviation, and professional negligence claims. Experience also includes commercial litigation, arbitration, maritime claims, and oil and gas matters.In regular demand and often personally requested by partners to manage complex cases.Assist with a wide variety of matters, including: Conducting initial case evaluations, identification of issues, and making recommendations for case management; Drafting reports to clients and preparing budgets; Drafting pleadings, motions and affidavits with minimal revisions, and preparing lists of documents; Reviewing extensive documents, including but not limited to medical and income records, claim documents, and commercial documents; Preparing chronologies to assist lawyers with discovery preparation; Conducting factual and legal research and drafting memorandums; Drafting and responding to discovery requests, including working with insurance adjusters/ insureds to respond to requests; Participating in all aspects of trial preparation, including reviewing and analyzing expert reports, drafting detailed letters objecting to expert opinion, retaining experts and drafting instruction letters, drafting trial briefs, organizing documents for use at trial, and contacting and/ or issuing subpoenas to witnesses.Proven track record of making significant contributions toward advantageous settlements, including drafting detailed damages assessments and effective mediation briefs.Consistently meet or exceed annual billable target.Scope of knowledge includes court procedure in BC Small Claims Court and BC Supreme Court, motor vehicle insurance and healthcare costs recovery legislation. Also knowledgeable in Saskatchewan Court of Queen's Bench procedure and BC workers’ compensation legislation.Mentor or assist new or less experienced paralegals as needed.
