I fact-check misleading and false claims about science and health, with a focus on COVID-19, vaccines, climate change and maternal health. I coordinate and edit our Spanish content, and work with our Spanish language fact-checking partners.

Spanish language Craft I

I pitch, report and write weekly stories for national Chilean newspaper La Tercera and its Saturday’s magazine. I mostly write about entertainment/art/culture and science/health/technology. I’m also a contributor writer for Chilean magazine Caras, LanChile’s In, and for national radio Cooperativa’s show “Lo que queda del día.”

I do freelance editing and copywriting in Spanish for books, stories, articles and websites. I also do English to Spanish translations for news organizations such as Orb Media and for independent reporters.

I contributed for VICE Mexico, La Tercera and El Mercurio, and magazines such as Caras, Paula, and Artishock (art online magazine). I also did research and wrote a book for Concha y Toro.

I wrote stories and took pictures in Mexico for the weekend magazine of El Universal and produced radio stories for Free Speech Radio News (FSRN) and Radio Bilingue. I lived in a small town in the mountains of Puebla, visited immigrant refuges in the border with Guatemala and hiked to the top of El Quemado, a sacred mountain in San Luis Potosí where Huicholes prayed for protection of their lands; among other things. I also contributed in a media project about media self censorship at Fundación MEPI.

I co-founded Mil M2, a pop-up art and civic center. There, I created an online community radio with 17 shows and streaming music 24/7. I fundraised $15,000 for equipment, built a studio, managed a team of 60, trained neighbors to become radio producers, and produced/hosted my own one-hour show: Historias de Mil M2.

I worked as a full-time reporter after graduating from Columbia and then after fulfilling a 2-year-home requirement from Fulbright. I covered crime, City Hall and immigration, and created content for a multimedia project about Hispanics in the U.S. (2009-2011 and 2006-2007)

While being a reporter at El Diario, I received a FITW fellowship and wrote political pieces about the Hispanic community. Six of them were picked by WNYC’s website and I was invited as a guest speaker on air twice.

I was a full-time faculty for the School of Journalism and taught radio, writing and reporting, thesis and introduction to journalism. I was in charge of graduate program for social leaders and squatters.
