Managed the Myanmar office of Hirondelle, a Swiss nonprofit that supports local newsrooms in the global South. Oversaw production for Doh Athan (“Our Voice”), a weekly podcast that documents human rights abuses in Myanmar, including violence against women, indigenous land theft, environmental destruction, and human trafficking. Also conducted workshops for local newsrooms on reporting, feature writing, and audio journalism. (This contract led to a permanent position with Climate & Capital Media, a Hirondelle project.)

Pitched and reported bi-weekly features for the leading English-language glossy magazine in the nation of Myanmar. Stories were written for an international audience and appeared both online and in print. Topics included politics, human rights, business, and arts and culture. Notable clips explore sexual assault against women with disabilities, access to healthcare for civilians in rebel-held territory, and the trials of Myanmar’s fledgling free press. Cultural clips cover Yangon’s burgeoning hip hop scene, Myanmar’s charity biker gangs, and a scandal surrounding the lost tomb of a Thai king. Also provided a satirical backpage column, editorial cartoons, and the “Myanmar 101” explainer – one of the magazine’s most-read sections.
