Jared is a 3rd year industrial design student at OCADu, minoring in wearable technology, and the founding vice president of the Student Association of Industrial Designers (SAID). He is avidly pursuing new and exciting challenges and has participated in several design competitions: notably winning the 2021 Ted Rogers Retail Conference case competition (with Michelle Wong and Michael Milliere) and a top 5 finalist in the PAVE 2020 Student Design competition (with Michelle Wong). He currently promotes himself as a freelance designer, recently working for a local theatre and production company, G'RILLA, on a new logo, branding and website. With a background in architecture and theatre, Jared brings his passions and unique creative perspective to all projects. He is constantly looking for new avenues to apply design thinking and values his ability to connect concepts and processes from different areas and industries to come up with creative design solutions. Jared has a close eye on what the future could bring and is always looking to learn and integrate modern design tools and technologies to his practice. Jared's approach to design is human-centered and function-first. He likes to incorporate a balance of analogue and digital techniques and has experience with additive manufacturing, rapid prototyping, 3D modelling and rendering, graphic design, model making, props and electronics. Always a child at heart, Jared wants to use his skills to one day design toys, games and playthings! To him, the best toy designs don't prescribe how to have fun and allow you to fall into a world of your own creation. Imagination is an asset and a privilege that too many of us take for granted. Once a performer, always a performer. Jared's background in music, acting and improv has given him a lot of confidence as a presenter and speaker, and his affable personality and wide interests means he can always pick up a conversation on any topic (don't even get him started on bogs...). He excels in leadership positions, creating a fun but productive work environment, and has goals of one day working as an educator as well as running his own design studio. As the vice president of SAID, Jared created and runs the industrial design peer mentorship program at OCAD, proudly mentoring three amazing first years.
