Reporter
The Grand Haven Tribune
I work as a government reporter covering the City of Grand Haven and Grand Haven Township. As a government reporter, I write and edit stories covering wide-ranging topics that concern the citizens of the Grand Haven area. Main areas of focus have included the employee pension fund, short-term rental properties, recreational marijuana, elections, PFAS, electric utilities, affordable housing, and lead line service replacement of the city's water system. My day-to-day work includes talking to and corresponding with elected politicians, city officials, and other sources through in-person interviews, phone calls, emails, and social media. Obtaining much-needed documents through Freedom of Information Act Requests. Querying the public using company social media accounts for story leads, ideas, and more. Photography and videography of local events and debates to be streamed to company social media accounts. Analyzing data using spreadsheet software to be used in data-driven journalism stories. I am a team member of an award-winning team of reporters. I received an honorable mention from the Michigan Press Association Awards in 2021 for my coverage of the Grand Haven Board of Light & Power in the category of News Enterprise Reporting.
