CurrentAs the head of the Microwave Instruments and Technologies Branch at NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center, I manage a small (25 person) group of diverse, highly passionate, motivated, and hardworking engineers that are developing the next generation of microwave technologies and instruments that enable space exploration and scientific discovery covering the frequency spectrum of a few MHz up to 6 THz. My responsibilities include:- Supervising branch members and performance evaluation- Technical project oversight and risk management- Serve as subject matter expert on proposal reviews, project reviews, tiger teams, etc- Budget and resource management- Staffing and directing work- Hiring, training, and mentoring- Strategic planning with branch and science partners- Partnership formulation- Reporting to upper management- Lead major flight instrument studies and proposals.
Microwave Instruments And Technology Branch Associate Head
As the associate head of the Microwave Instrument and Technology Branch at NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center, I assisted the branch head at 50% level of effort in:- Supervising branch members and performance evaluation- Technical project oversight and risk management- Serve as subject matter expert on proposal reviews, project reviews, tiger teams, etc- Budget and resource management- Staffing and directing work- Hiring, training, and mentoring- Strategic planning with branch and science partners- Partnership formulation- Reporting to upper managementFor the other 50% level of effort, I served as a microwave engineer developing key technologies and instruments in support of earth and planetary sciences including:1) CubeSat Radiometer Radio Frequency Interference (RFI) Technology (CubeRRT):I designed, simulated, fabricated, assembled, tested, qualified and delivered the flight Microwave Assembly (MWA) for the CubeRRT mission. The MWA is a 6-40 GHz multi-chip low noise receiver assembly that is capable of switching between three antenna inputs and an internal Dicke Load. It also includes a novel wideband tandem stripline coupler and noise source for calibration.2) Submillimeter Enceladus Life Fundamentals Instrument (SELFI):I designed, simulated, fabricated, tested, and delivered 18 separate microwave subassemblies including:- 14x Miniaturized single sideband downconverter assemblies- A custom packaged 1-47 GHz wideband low noise amplifier using COTS MMIC- Custom 6-40 GHz 1:8 power divider on alumina- 2x Intermediate frequency combiner assemblies- Direct detect assembly with video amplifier- 7x Custom bandpass filters on alumina
