Aircraft Technician
Performs troubleshooting of electrical or environmental systems and related equipment for assigned aircraft. Tests, corrects and maintains power control systems which include the tie-in of power and control circuits with other functional systems. Installs, modifies, repairs, replaces, adjusts and overhauls complex and/or electrical or environmental systems, components, and accessories, with intricate wiring armament, landing gear, antiskid, ignition, stall warning, power distribution, engine drive alternator and fuel indicating systems. Replaces, installs and/or removes defective control units, relays, boards, servo units, indicating instruments, or other components of systems. Performs final functional and operational tests of the entire aircraft electrical or environmental systems. Performs functional, operational, and calibration checks on systems, equipment, and accessories researching aircraft modification history, technical orders, engineering change proposals, and manuals concerning wire codes, wiring configuration, and testing procedures. Utilizes safety practices and procedures and complies with security regulations, directives, and policies. Certifies work produced under the Technical Order Program. As required, verifies and certifies work processes and procedures of certified coworkers and trainees and adequacy of work accomplished. Attends and successfully completes On-The Job training (OJT) and any required classroom training required to be certified on assigned tasks. Cleans work area and equipment. Utilizes safety practices and procedures. Controls Tools. Ensures tools are properly marked, calibrated (if necessary), and are secured when area is unattended. Reports any lost tools in accordance with applicable procedures. Ensures the tool inventory log is properly signed in accordance with established procedures. Ensures that assigned equipment, special precision tools, and materials are handled, stored, and protected correctly.
Aircraft Technician
The primary purpose of this position is: To function as a lead technician over an assigned group of aircraft maintenance personnel and to perform journey-level work as an Aircraft Electrician under the ELEN career field to include troubleshooting, modifying, repairing, and performing final functional and operational tests of complex electrical systems, components, and accessories in fixed or rotary winged aircraft. Provides leadership for an assigned team of ELEN personnel. Ensures personnel in your AFSC receive proficiency training. Consults with and advises the Flight Chief on matters limiting repair capability. Operates, installs, troubleshoots, aligns, calibrates, inspects, modifies, repairs and tests integrated electrical and environmental control systems, components and accessories with intricate wiring systems under actual or ground power that are extensively interconnected with data feedback loops such as ARINC-429, MIL-STDl553B and RS-232. Sets up and operates computerized multiple circuit analyzing equipment to run established and new diagnostic programs in various test modes to test aircraft electrical circuitry and interconnecting cabling of the entire aircraft or individual systems. Provides expert systems/equipment advice and recommendations to senior leaders and maintenance technicians. Recommends tests, equipment modifications, corrections to design deficiencies through evaluation of operational capability of systems/equipment and review of performance data against standards. Keeps abreast of latest state-of-the-art equipment and procedures through review of engineering drawings and data, repair manuals, technical bulletins, manufacturer's catalogs, and supply catalog data to maintain expert technical knowledge. Prepares and provides informal training to include over-the-shoulder, classroom, demonstration, one-on-one, and spontaneous training. Prepares lesson plans, course outlines, and examinations, as required.
