Worked at the Biological Sciences Facility (BSF) under the Ecosystem Science team to advance our understanding of biogeochemical processes and nutrient transformations in coastal systems. The work was performed under Dr. Kaizad Patel for the COMPASS and TES projects which seek to better understand Terrestrial Aquatic Interfaces (TAI) to ultimately improve.

Conducted stormwater sampling from several ISCO samplers throughout a Columbus suburb for nutrient analysis to determine the effectiveness of bioretention cells and other initiatives of the Blueprint Columbus project, one of the nation’s largest green infrastructure projects. Designed a 3D-printed root-zone system in coordination with NASA and Ohio State intended to overcome the challenges of growing plants in microgravity and to promote sustainable food production in space, ultimately moving NASA closer to their mission to Mars. Studied surface runoff and subsurface drainage from agricultural fields in NW Ohio to determine best management practice effectiveness to reduce harmful nutrients such as phosphates and nitrates from entering Ohio’s water bodies. Collected subsurface/surface water samples, conducted nutrient release experiments and soil porosity tests, prepared lab samples.

Collected GIS data, trail logistics, and photographs on several trails in Big Sky, Montana using a geographic information collection device and cameras with the purpose of creating a field guide for the area with detailed maps of the trails hiked.
