The work was performed under Dr. Kaizad Patel for the COMPASS and TES projects which seek to better understand Terrestrial Aquatic Interfaces (TAI) to ultimately improve Global Climate Models (GCMs) so a more informed and deliberate approach to climate change can be accomplished.I performed various extractions and physicochemical analyses on over 200 soil samples from the Western Lake Erie and Chesapeake Bay regions. Tasks included Soil Sieving, Soil Weighing, Soil Texture Analysis, Elemental Analysis, pH Analysis, Water Retention Curves, Soil Respiration Measurements, DNA Extractions, Chemical Extractions, Molarity Calculations, Solution Prep, Peroxide Rinsing, and R Coding Introduction. Through these tasks I was able to be exposed to instrumentation and methods such as SHIMADZU Elemental Analysis, FTICR-MS, ICP-MS, Colorimetric Analysis techniques, Hydrometer texture analysis, and Lyophilization. I then analyzed soil characterization data in R and presented my results at the 2022 Research Symposium. Show less
