Application Developer
• Developed custom controls and safety software for mobile hydraulic equipment using specific middleware, C, and CODESYS• Knowledgeable in functional safety requirements and software project design• Assisted customers with troubleshooting hydraulic components and TTControl controllers
Applications Engineer
As an applications engineer I was responsible for analyzing project specifications, equipment schedules and performing engineering flow and pressure calculations to recommend the best equipment. I was also responsible for driving market development of our engineered product by providing on site lunch and learn sessions to potential distributors and consultants. Technical pre and post sales support was also a major responsibility of mine.
Market Management Co-Op
It was part of my position to help revise and define business processes. Implementing these new procedures involved creating and coding workbooks that automated and assisted the user with completing the process. Part of my position was also automating current processes by designing and coding workbooks that maximized the user’s efficiency. During my co-op term with Festo Canada, I used my software designing, development and testing theory to create automated workbooks in Excel VBA. For example, I designed a workbook to track marketing promotional material and budgets for all employees. I used software design theory and information gained by talking to potential users, to design the optimal workbook to handle the tasks. I then used my development and testing theory learned in school to create and test the promotional workbook. Secondly, I used the same software theory and skills to create a workbook, which automates the refreshing of business analytics data, creating the reports and sending them to the recipients. Finally, I used mechatronics theory to understand how Festo’s products work and perform, in order to answer questions more accurately. Lastly, I gained sales experience by assisting sales associates with the Festo mobile technology center, and attending customer locations.
Project Managers Office Toolset Developer Co-Op
For my third co-op experience I worked with ATS Automation in the Project Managers Office Toolset Developer role. This role included programming financial and material excel worksheets to automate the grunt work and improve efficiency. I began my term with ATS by improving an existing automated material tracker with VBA, which would read big data files from JD Edwards and create corresponding reports and graphs. For the remainder of my term I created a new automated worksheet to speed up the financial work of accounting, by tracking labour and costs from JD Edwards and forecasting the budget of the project. I also created an automated meeting minute’s template using C# and VSTO that would give the user an easy way to track meeting details. This Word template would interface with Outlook to generate meeting details and attendees. All automated documents were developed such that the back end code is stored in a separate sever side worksheet, which allowed for back end updates to occur without the user needing new files. • Streamlined financial and project manager processes by developing automated worksheets and documents in VBA and C# using Excel editor and VSTO• Shaped and designed the functionality of automated worksheets to maximize the efficiency of accountants and project managers when using data from JD Edwards• Molded the toolset developer position to benefit multiple areas of the company, and provided essential documents for the continuation of growth and development
Junior Project Coordinater Co-Op
In addition to my education at McMaster University, I have years of valuable work experience that have amplified my skills in the workplace. For my second co-op experience, I provided my services and expertise to my employer, Aecon Group. I worked as a junior project coordinator building a gas compression plant for union gas. During my co-op, one of my main tasks was to analyze mechanical drawings, and create custom work packages for the fabrication shop to reference while building sections of piping and supports. I developed a high attention to detail while creating these packages as any mistakes would have been my responsibility, and could’ve delayed the project. These technical and professional skills I gained by analyzing drawings and creating work packages, would provide me with the skills to understand more aspects of a problem I could be faced. An in depth understanding would give me a great reference to solve problems in a professional and efficient manner.•Worked on site constructing a multi-million dollar gas compression plant for Union Gas•Trusted with analyzing mechanical drawings and creating piping work packages that were used by the fabrication shop for production on the job•Depended on to review electrical, mechanical and civil drawings, and calculate the amount of certain materials needed for ordering, keeping the project moving smoothly•Professionally logged and developed VBA macro spreadsheets for all Requests For Information and Engineering Change Notices between Aecon and Union Gas, ensuring the security and responsibility of all critical decisions•Individually organized and documented all incoming drawings from Union Gas and other vendors, providing easy accessibility for reference and distribution to corresponding employees•Successfully furnished the Aecon mobile offices saving over $4000, given a budget and requirements to meet, while creating a proper work flow environment for the project
Student Project Coordinator Co-Op
Ball Construction is a general contractor that takes on very challenging jobs confidently. For example, some of their award winning builds includes the addition for the Perimeter Institute for Theoretical Physics and the University of Waterloo Health Sciences’ School of Pharmacy. With over 90 years of experience and success, they have completed and are completing many more projects, including the Meridian Centre in St. Catharines where I completed my term. While completing my work term I worked on site at the Meridian Centre in St. Catharines. The Meridian Centre is a hockey arena that will be used for many spectator events and the new home of the OHL team Niagara Ice Dogs. My job title on the project was Student Coordinator; this allowed me to work very closely with the site superintendent, project manager and project coordinator during my term. Working closely with the professionals that controlled the project was very beneficial for me, because learning how to manage all of the sub trades and workers helped me complete my work as coordinator. For instance, I was able to sit in during many meetings where the project manager, owners, architects etc. would discuss outstanding problems currently on the project. I was also able to sit in during the foreman meetings, where the foremen from each sub trade would gather and also discuss ongoing matters. Observing my superiors at these meetings taught me how to properly communicate with people and how to take control of a situation. These attributes are the key functions of the managers, supervisors and I as we complete our tasks.
