Fire Captain
CurrentRespond to emergency alarms, assume command, determine apparatus and equipment needs; make decisions as to the best methods of managing emergency situations, direct firefighting efforts, emergency medical and hazardous materials operations work until relieved of command by the shift commander or higher-ranking chief officer§ Maintain effective fireground communications§ Supervise search and rescue hose lays, direct water streams, monitor pressure streams for effectiveness, extend property conservation, supervise cleanup operations and safety§ Supervise fire apparatus and equipment for readiness§ Supervise the cleaning and minor maintenance of quarters, equipment and apparatus; inspect personnel and maintain discipline; instruct and drill personnel in firefighting techniques and related subjects§ Maintain an active management role in the various departmental programs.§ Prepare personnel performance records and fire reports regarding alarms, supplies, and other matters relating to fire company and equipment.§ Supervise the fire company for the property management inspection program, educate property owners as to fire prevention, and train company personnel in pre-fire planning.§ Enforce the City of Flagstaff designated occupancy standards§ Supervise and complete hydrant maintenance consistent with Flagstaff Fire Department procedures.§ Conduct tours of the fire station, conduct fire safety talks to local schools and organizations, and administer blood pressure tests.§ Communicate and maintain adherence to Flagstaff Fire Department and City of Flagstaff rules, regulations and procedures.§ Actively maintain a high level of physical and mental fitness and alertness, in order to be prepared for extremely challenging situations and environmental conditions.§ Provide quality internal and external customer service in a safe and professional manner.
