Jared Strange is the Director of Education and Community Programs at The National Theatre Foundation, as well as a writer, theatre artist, scholar, and educator based in Washington, DC. He holds a PhD in Theatre and Performance Studies from the University of Maryland, where he was a Mary Savage Snouffer Fellow, and an MFA in Playwriting from Texas Tech University. His scholarship and reviews can be found in Theatre Research International, Journal of Dramatic Theory and Criticism, Comparative Drama, Theatre Journal, TDR, American Theatre, 3Views on Theater, the Washington City Paper, DC Theatre Arts and a series of historical websites for The National Theatre. I worked with the East Lubbock Promise Neighborhood Grant, a $24.5 million grant from the U.S. Department of Education that benefitted one of the most notoriously underserved communities in the state of Texas. My job entailed overseeing after-school arts programs, organizing and hosting arts-related fieldtrips, designing and directing an annual summer arts camp for elementary school students, coordinating volunteer efforts, collaborating with other ELPN partners on events and initiatives, reporting data to University and federal leadership, and overseeing the post-Grant sustainment efforts for the College.

I taught Theatre Appreciation (for non-majors) and Introduction to Theatre (for majors). I also served as a teaching assistant for a community engagement course and Introduction to Cinema. My assistantship also included working with the annual one-act play festival, first as Dramaturg and then again as Producer for two years. I also took on a variety of volunteer projects, including a term as a graduate student representative to the Theatre & Dance leadership; had several of my plays produced, both in readings and full productions; and appeared in a number of productions.
