The interest of the principal investigator is in the efficacy of botulinum toxin as a neoadjunct treatment for patients with prostate cancer. Under the head researcher, I investigated the relationship between neoplastic cells in the prostate and subsequent neurogenesis in the area for a proof of concept. Successful investigation required the dissection and culturing of the dorsal root ganglia from mice and observation of the presence or absence of a growth factor protein under a luminescent microscope. -
Student ResearcherIcahn School Of Medicine At Mount Sinai May 2015 - Aug 2015New York, Ny, UsThe Faith Laboratory performs research in genomics and multi-scale biology to investigate the relationship between the microbiome, diet, and inflammatory bowel disease. In order to increase the resolution of the bacterium genome for better identification of bacteria, the principal investigator had me perform various experimental techniques such as double digest restriction-site associated DNA sequencing. With this technique, I could increase the efficacy of restriction endonucleases on methylated DNA in plasmids to further precisely identify bacteria strains that contribute to complex diseases.
