As a Mellon Mays Undergraduate Fellow, I execute research on the unconstitutional and discriminatory nature of American prisons, specifically in a southern context. I sustain particular focus on the 8th and 14th amendments in relation to the treatment of the incarcerated. Through my research, I intend to clarify the culture of inhumane treatment intrinsic to these carceral institutions through interviews and extensive archival research.

Through dialogue, he offer students constructive feedback on their projects and help them develop more effective composing strategies. Interpersonal skills are critical to Jared's success in assisting students from diverse backgrounds and writing proficiencies. He can discuss composition in different genres and media, including academic writing, personal essays, research reports, and multimedia compositions.

Jared was competitively chosen as a Law & Ethics Fellow, lasting for approximately two terms. As a fellow, Jared, amongst others, analyzed the practice of disagreement on the Supreme Court. He observed and examined why justices and ultimately society maintain disparate ideologies concerning various issues. Jared also had the opportunity to analyze the prevailing differences between the fields of law and ethics and how these two entities function together to forge the body of common law within the United States.

The NAACP chapter at Dartmouth College is deeply committed to the ideals of ensuring the political, educational, social, and economic equality of all citizens; achieving equality of rights and eliminate race prejudice among the citizens of the United States; removing all barriers of racial discrimination through democratic processes; seeking enactment and enforcement of federal, state, and local laws securing civil rights; and informing the public of the adverse effects of racial discrimination and to seek its elimination. This organization actively attempts to forge spaces of equity and equality. When issues arise regarding a lack black equality, they initiate meetings with prominent administration to inform them of certain racial inequities. They also sustain a grave focus on black mental health and creating spaces to discuss feelings, whether positive or negative.

As a legal intern at the Washington, D.C. US Attorney's Office, I work in the Breach & Assault division with a team of nearly 30 Assistant US Attorneys. I am tasked with weekly court attendance, followed by a debrief with my fellow interns and supervisor where we discuss criminal court procedure and the proceedings of the case. In terms of concrete assignments, I execute evidence analysis where I review camera footage and website databases for inculpatory evidence. I also perform transcript and motion reviews, where I sift through court reports for patterns and instances of objections and the subsequent rulings. I subsequently craft comprehensive reports of this information for more efficient review.

As a congressional intern for Congresswoman Terri Sewell of the 7th District of Alabama, Jared sustains a focus on speechwriting for the Congresswoman, legislative policy writing on committee bills, press releases, and congressional proclamations. He also has a highly active role in constituent service and casework, including constituent response letters and scholarship workshopping.His most formidable task was in legislative and legal research for the purpose of cultivating detailed policy briefs on matters directly affecting Alabama's 7th Congressional District.

As a Servant Leader Intern at the Legacy Prep Campus of the Children’s Defense Fund, Jared functioned as an educational instructor to 1st grade students for a six week period. He maintained a classroom where he facilitated the CDF’s Integrated Reading Curriculum, a methodology focused on reading comprehension and student’s intrinsic ability to understand the details of various texts through group reading and subsequent in-depth activities. He especially focused on establishing real world connections based on the content of the books, and he ensured that nuanced and extensive dialogues were had with the students.

As a student intern at the Tenth Judicial Circuit Court of Alabama, Jared works under and shadows Honorable Judge Shantá Owens, a judge in the criminal division. With her, he sees hearings, appeals, and trials each week, where she has to evaluate cases and make informed decisions on various situations. He acquires first-hand knowledge of how the justice system functions in the city of Birmingham, and he is also able to observe how a court is run. The judge sometimes asks Jared and a fellow intern their opinions on specific legal situations, offering them an opportunity to exercise their juridicial minds.

As a mentor, he also guides the students through tours of the high school and maintains a consistent line of communication with them throughout the year to promote a firm connection for their educational benefit.
