Profile bio

About Jared R Smith, M.S.

I enjoy exploring for hydrocarbons in both conventional and unconventional settings across continental U.S. Basins including: Permian, Anadarko, Appalachia, Arkoma, Haynesville, and Williston. I perform analyses on current plays for future developmental/stacking strategies. I primarily use S&P Kingdom software to accurately and effectively analyze the subsurface for quick turn-around times. Another tool that has been deployed is JewelSuite (Baker Hughes) to create 3D geocellular models of the subsurface in order to accurately land wells and provide volumetrics. With this tool unique perspectives of the subsurface in 3D help to pinpoint flow units and landing zones.Furthermore, I have extensive experience in the environmental and regulatory industry. I have completed numerous turn-key projects for gas plants in the Permian basin to safely and efficiently dispose of Acid Gas. In addition to the many other environmental problems that have been solved, I pride myself on building reputable relationships with local and federal agencies for regulatory compliance. When I’m not working with the awesome team at Flywheel Energy I spend the rest of my time with my beautiful family. I also enjoy fly fishing, rock hounding, and working outside in my garden. I love teaching kids, including my own, about science and the Earth. I received my B.S. degree in geology from the University of Oklahoma and my M.S. degree in geology from the University of New Mexico. My thesis combines geochemistry, geophysics, and structural geology to determine fluid pathways along faults in the central Rio Grande rift. By combining these fields I was able to better understand how fault networks control fluid migration; specifically between the Valles Caldera geothermal system and the northwestern Albuquerque basin (and, respective hydrocarbon systems).

Listed skills include Geology, Seismology, Environmental Awareness, Arcgis, and 22 others.
