I'm a human-centered, criminal-legal reform advocate with a breadth of experience in addressing the intersecting needs of marginalized communities in the South. Throughout my experience as a bail underwriter, I have deep and substantial insight into the social determinants of justice that impact the well-being of people of color. I realize that I particularly thrive in capacities where research, policy, creativity, and storytelling are involved.The deep purpose I find in ensuring justice, fairness, and equity for my people has incited my current endeavors into radical spaces; those that cater to my desire to serve others and influence systematic change. I began to take earlier action back in May of 2020 by co-founding the The South Carolina Freedom Fund. This community-led bail fund was started as a way to alleviate the costs of bail for Black people impacted by the system in Columbia, SC—many of whom were protesting on the frontlines during the uprisings following the murder of George Floyd by police. Our work is intersectional, nuanced, and challenging. However, it has created an opportunity to engage the local community in national efforts to end cash bail and move beyond current reform efforts.Available expertise with facilitating complex criminal-legal processes and legal research, providing direct service provision, liaising with community and governmental stakeholders, developing crisis intervention strategies, analyzing and interpreting policy, and crowdsourcing resources.
