As Director of the Office of New Student and Parent Programs, I was responsible for oversight of New Student and Parent Programs department budget, strategic plan, and assessment initiatives. Oversaw the following functional areas: K Week (annual fall welcome week), K2 (annual spring welcome week), Common Reading Experience, UK Parent Association, and K Book (new student handbook). Supervised 2 full-time Assistant Directors, 1 office support staff, numerous student workers, and over 500 student leaders. In addition, I served as Co-Director of UK 101, a first-year academic orientation seminar course for new and transfer students (98 sections offered in fall 2010) – Assessment data showed it was the single strongest influence on retention and graduation rates on campus; Worked with faculty and academic administrators on course curriculum and learning outcomes; Responsible for curriculum development, training of faculty and staff instructors, delivering lectures, and mentoring student peer instructors; Coordinated academic disciplinary procedures; In charge of selecting and training over 100 Peer Instructors who co-taught each UK 101 section; Taught UK 101 each fall semester to 25 new students.
