Developed methods and technologies for the collection and integration of stormwater infrastructure in the City of Martinsburg. Assisted in a stream assessment of the Tuscarora Creek alongside the West Virginia Department of Environmental Protection (WVDEP.) Assisted in inspection outfalls, construction sites, and the testing of stormwater to meet the requirements of the Municipal Separate Storm Sewer (MS4) permit of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA.) Heavy use of ArcGIS, ArcGIS Online, Pathfinder, TerraSync, large format scanner, and the Trimble 7x GPS for data collection, processing, and archiving.

Wrote code, developed science, and contributed to the writing of a report for a flood exposure assessment for the Rio Salado in Argentina for a project with the World Bank. Attended the Strengthening Disaster Risk Reduction across the Americas Summit in Buenos Ares, Argentina. The study was highlighted in a poster session at the Fall 2017 American Geophysical Union Meeting.

Led a team of NASA DEVELOP participants under the guidance of Jamie Favors and in collaboration with Mercy Corps to design and implement a rainfall resiliency tool for Niger. Utilized Earth observations and model data from NASA and other sources to integrate social, economic, and physical data into an exploration dashboard and rainfall trend analysis using Google Earth Engine. The software, Rainfall Analysis Integrated (RAIn), was published through NASA DEVELOP GitHub repository. The study was presented at the Fall 2017 American Geophysical Union Meeting.

Harpers Ferry, Wv

Developed and carried out training curriculum for whitewater guides. Adapted American Canoe Association’s curriculum to meet the needs of guides, whitewater professionals, rescue professionals, and military special mission units. Taught skills including knots, ropes, mechanical advantages, hydrology, geology, wilderness survival, river navigation, land surveying, rescue, and teamwork. Joint development and execution with the US Army Divers led to the first ever military Swiftwater Dive Manual.

Nasa Goddard Space Flight Center

Worked within a team under the guidance of Dr. Kent Ross and the NASA DEVELOP support team. Collaboration with the National Park Service’s (NPS) Northern Great Plains Network (NGPN) with Dr. Isabel Ashton and Dr. Amy Symstad (USGS) to utilize NASA Earth observations to map temporal and spatial patterns of annual bromes and in the Northern Great Plains. Analyzed MODIS derived ForWARN data, Landsat 5 and 8, Sentinel-2, using phenology based NDVI differencing and unsupervised classification with TerrSet, ENVI and Google Earth Engine software.

NASA SPACE GRANT SCHOLAR 9/2013 - 5/2014Conducted West Virginia NASA Space Grant Consortium funded research, under Dr. Jeff Groff, into the development of a low-cost, Open-Source, Raspberry Pi-based development of a receiver and server for a wireless environmental sensing unit. Results presented at the West Virginia Academy of Sciences and the Shepherd University NASA Day.SOARS SCHOLAR 6/2013 — 9/2013Shepherd University funded assistance to Dr. Groff in the development of a low power, wireless, Open-Source, programmable environmental sensing unit, based off the Arduino platform. CAD files for 2-layer PCB boards were developed and printed for the sensing unit and its customizable shields.PHYSICS LAB INTERN 6/2013 — 9/2013Conducted original model greenhouse thermal research, under Dr.Groff. Results were presented at the Shepherd University.
