I have followed a diverse scientific career path, wherein I accumulated critical skills in a wide variety of disciplines in the academic, industrial, and governmental sectors. On one hand, I have been a biomedical researcher for over 20 years, and have led projects in drug discovery, regenerative medicine, and microbiome-related research. Simultaneously, I have 9 years of experience in professional medical communications, during which I handled over 2,300 manuscripts/abstracts/presentation slides for scientists and physicians from around the world and been chosen as a “favorite editor” by over 140 clients to date.I received a bachelor’s degree in Biology and Chemistry from Earlham College in Indiana, followed by a doctoral degree from the Department of Pathology, University of Alabama at Birmingham. After completing my postdoctoral training at the National Cancer Institute in Bethesda, Maryland, I joined a startup company in North Carolina where I explored cellular responses to oxidative stress and helped discover unique small molecules that induce cellular detoxifying enzymes driven by the transcriptional activator Nrf2. I also worked on agents that target cancer cell metabolism. I have pursued multiple simultaneous endeavors in the years since, most recently a full-time Director of Research and Development in industry while remaining a visiting scientist in academia as well as a contract-based editor with a medical communications agency.
