About Jarime Nance

Going back to school as an adult was not a choice I made lightly. I am a very hard- working individual who commits whole-heartedly. So, why? Why choose to switch from being behind the wheel to directing where the wheel travels?Perception and education.Over the last 20 years, I have operated almost every piece of heavy equipment – whether that was on the side of a mountain, plowing snow, or dredging canals – and I have seen how the industry has changed, especially the growing gap between what I do daily and what the public thinks I do. That is the perception I want to change, and the best way to do that is to advocate and educate from within the industry.I am passionate about construction, about building and creating a better place for everyone to enjoy, and all that working knowledge and experience makes what I am learning in school easier to understand and easier to apply. From learning how to estimate materials for jobs, jobsite safety and the importance of creating a jobsite safety plan, to learning how to be an effective researcher while writing argumentative essays, I am already applying that knowledge every day I am on the job.I am a driven, hard-working, problem solver, who is a natural leader sought out by my peers, and I have the job skills earned from years of field service. With a bachelor's degree in Construction Management, I am the perfect storm.I have often thought that the skill set, and knowledge needed within the construction industry are fading, that we are losing touch with those that work in the field – that gap I mentioned earlier – and that challenge is just another mountain I see that needs to be moved. That's what a natural leader does, steps up to the challenge. For me, that means the short-term sacrifice of time, time with my family or time spent doing the hobbies I love, to devoting that time working full-time while going to school full-time.I may not be the traditional college student or the traditional guy operating that dozer, but I know that what I learn will ultimately be the reason I bridge the perception gap and change the industry for the better.
