My duties as COO include a 4.1 Owners representative appointment under the MHSA and MPRDA through which I am responsible for the operation from an Operational and Health, Safety and Environmental perspective. This entails ensuring systems and resources are in place to comply with the regulatory framework in place as governed by the DMRE, DEFF and DHSWS.During the past 4 years, the milestones for my position have been as follows:• Maintain HSE systems to ensure compliance and limit impacts• Ensure achievement of Mining and Processing production targets, including sales• Ensure Ex-Mine gate costs are within budget• Section 189 large scale retrenchments with organised labour and facilitation and CCMA – implementation of short-time agreement in September 2020• Labour management, including management of the Somkhele bargaining forum (which includes NUM, AMCU and Solidarity)• MOU facilitation with Ezemvelo KZN Wildlife regarding Biodiversity Offsets for new mining areas and Visual and Noise Impacts.• Environmental Authorizations for new mining areas through DMR• Water Use Licence application for new Mining Areas through DHSWS• Social and Labour Plan drafting, approval and implementation; Community Consultation and DMR Task Team Facilitation into the Mine’s Section 54 application for relocation of land occupants for mining purposes.• Implement new water treatments at slurry dams to increase water reticulation and introduce boreholes to underground aquifer of river.• Testing of Discard and slurry for co-disposal opportunities to motivate using slurry as a Class-C liner. Apply for Waste Licence Environmental Authorization.• Implementation of Community projects such as Vulamehlo, ABET, N1-3, Crop production, Lego Six-Bricks for pre-schools.

• During my employment at Keaton, the company operated the Vanggatfontein operation in Delmas (Bituminous Coal mining and beneficiation) and the Vaalkranz operation in Vryheid (Anthracite mining and beneficiation). Each operation had processing facilities which I had to oversee by managing the processing contractors and the products produced which included Eskom grade thermal coal, 5-seam products to the ferrochrome industry as well as anthracite to the ferrochrome industry and export (Brazil, China etc.).• From February 2015 to June 2015, I was appointed as Acting COO (Chief operations officer). During this time, I carried a 4.1 Appointment as the owner’s representative as per the MHSA for the operations and subsequently the Health and Safety systems for all operations became my responsibility. Furthermore, my responsibilities broadened to also include financial, social, mining and other disciplines.

• The appointment entails the running of the process department which includes three coal handling and processing plants. Two of the plants beneficiate anthracite product (3.4Mt per annum) and the third is an energy coal plant (2Mt per annum).• Plant 2 was commissioned in February and March 2012 and plant 3 in February 2013.• Other areas forming part of the responsibilities of the process manager, includes managing of a SANAS accredited laboratory (see www.sanas.co.za South African National Accreditation System), discard dump, slurry ponds and stockpile and loading facilities on site and at the dry bulk terminal in the Richards Bay harbour through a contractor.• The position also includes the management of maintenance strategies, human resources, training, HSE management, financial management, sales and all other tasks that are encountered in managing a process plant.• Projects: Commissioning of plant 2 – an anthracite beneficiation plant. Commissioning of plant 3 – an energy coal beneficiation plant which is fed with the discard from plant 1 and 2 as well as discard from the old workings. Overall efficiency investigation and improvement of the plants. Process consumables usage decrease Training and skills development of process staff Development of systems for SANAS accreditation of the laboratory on site. In-pit sampling program. Studies related to phosphorous content of coal at various densities. On-going blending of source materials for optimal yield and quality results.
