Whilst managing employees in my workplace I wanted to continually uplift my tech skills so I chose an industry I saw a major issue with and decided to put my skills to work to help resolve the deficiencies in the school relief teacher hiring sector. airTeachr is a tech wonder as it's built on entirely serverless technology. When no one is using the app, there is nothing running and therefore no costs. This means we have been able to offer the product at a very low price to schools and free for teachers.

Pay Advantage is an amazing company with a software product that allows users to manage their customers direct debits and credit card payments in an easy to use platform. This role facilitates the technical direction and the business strategy into one cohesive path forward for the company.

This role has been a great opportunity to advance my skills as a developer, architect and a leader. Originally starting the role as the lead for incoming work and owning the pipeline of work that came into the Internet Banking asset backlog. I worked with Solution Designers, Project Managers, GM's Architects and Developers to ensure a straightforward process for shaping, estimating and delivering outcomes.As the role grew I started a brand new team with the work to deliver the first micro frontend service in NAB. The Goal: to replace an existing customer-facing application with high costs and low customer usage with a solution that could adapt to customer needs.The application was build in React fronend & GraphQL backend. Deployed to AWS using docker images running on an ECS cluster. The service is owned and supported completely by fullstack devops team. We have a release cadence every 2 weeks and actively adhereing to customer requests and feedback.Along this journey we have developed other applications. Two of which were developed during the hit to the economy when COVID first happened and many people needed specific information from their Bank. A request was given to deploy a service within 48 hours. Due to the deployment pipeline and knowledge we had of building microfrontends. We were able to deliver the first application in 36 hours ensuring that when customers needed the service the coming money it was available. They could obtain the information documentation they required instantly and be able to present that information to obtain jobkeeper.The next request for a more complicated application, and we were able to deliver that the following week. This is a delivery speed that the bank had not seen before and was able to set a great precedence for how we can help our customers as soon as they require it.Using the micro frontend development strategy we were able to deploy these applications to the mobile native app with little overhead.

Throughout this senior management position, I managed to ensure the team was able to deliver over 40 organisational scale designs which pieced together the architecture of the solutions and gave the development teams guidance and direction on how they need to implement the solution. A critical part of the role was continual hiring as there is a lack of qualified resources in the job market, I spent 4-6 hours a week interviewing to find the right people for the role. When the recruitment process was hindered due to there being not enough qualified resources being available; I stepped in and created and developed solution designs. I demonstrated the essential need of this position and the importance of leadership to ensure decisions were determined at an early stage. In this role I provided myself as a first point of contact, with excellent knowledge of the system, available to clients, to assist them in understanding what the asset would be used for, and how they could build their solution. Many developers and the support team did not want to do anything outside the normal base functionality. This meant the asset would become 'end of life' as soon as the business needed new functionalities for customers that weren't currently offered. I ensured decisions were made with a vision of the future in mind and enabled NAB to continue developing in the latest technological structures. I also redefined the entire engagement model for utilising the B2B team, which gave the organisation an instant view of the service capabilities. Working closely with the TSO, we covered the responsibilities of a Product Owner.

I lead the design for this piece of work; I designed and supervised the build for an overhaul of the framework simultaneously, to make the delivery in the asset more flexible and simplify a lot of processes that had confused development in the past. This involved a lot of regression testing and performance testing, where I rebuilt the regression testing framework and directed the work for a performance testing framework. I was also required to act as the scrum master in this role, as we needed daily stand ups to ensure tasks were being completed to their deadlines. I also worked with colleagues to guarantee they understood the impacts of meeting their own deadlines. This often-required reprioritisation of work tasks and re-allocating work to others to ensure the project was successful.
