About Judy Romano
I’m Judy Romano, an award-winning, former journalist and broadcaster who loves to travel, write and tell stories. As I approached my 40th birthday, I was feeling a little low. I was approaching that milestone and felt like I didn’t have much of a plan for the rest of my life. In short, I was in a boring rut!I decided the best way to get out of that rut was to come up with a plan. It needed to be forward-thinking. It needed to bring excitement into my life. It really needed to remind me how thrilling life could be if I just gave it the chance.I decided to combine my lifelong curiosity with my love of travel. I thought, “There are 26 letters in the alphabet. If I just use the ABCs as my guide, I can see the entire world before I retire.”That clicked! I have only two simple rules: The annual trip must be outside the 48 continental US states and each trip should take me somewhere I’ve never been before. Then along came 2020. As everyone in the entire world knows, the year wreaked havoc on the best of plans. Mine plan was no exception. I'm on a hiatus until world travel opens up again, but I'm not sitting still. My husband and I have kicked off a new plan to see the USA the same way. "A is for Aviation" is already in the books. You can read about the “ABC” trips at www.theworldatoz.com Of course, I also write about other places I’ve been, things I’ve done and a few random thoughts and tips about travel and life. Most of all … there’s a whole world out there waiting to be explored. Get out there and see it.

Owner And Principal
I blog about travel and provide writing assistance and marketing consultation to travel professionals nationwide.
Communications Director
I lead a team of four overseeing communications and marketing outreach for the largest of GSA’s schedules -- covering IT systems and services -- that does more than $16 billion in business annually and includes approximately 5,000 vendors. Key accomplishments and activities:- Managing editor for two newsletters; direct the Center’s social media engagement activities- Maintain and refresh the Center's website, transforming content, adding dashboards and updating content based on customer survey results- Develop and supervise classroom instruction including advertising and registration for classes, managing email and phone-based help services- Produce and edit video instruction courses and other informational products including presentations and speeches- Represent the division speaking before leading IT industry groups- As supervisor, re-skilling and counseling two marginal employees
Supervisory Integrated Communications
I led a team of five responsible for managing all public affairs and communications activities for the division. Key accomplishments and activities:- Working closely with the division’s senior leaders, wrote speeches and talking points for as many as five engagements per week- Managed and edited content of more than 150 web pages- Edited and/or developed all presentations and print materials- With support from GSA’s Office of Communications and Marketing, created first-ever media training program for ITS’ senior leaders- Created comprehensive communications plans for promotion of key ITS products and services, managing communications and media-relations activities across GSA offices
Video Producer/Public Affairs Officer
I managed an agency client portfolio that included the Federal Acquisition Service, as well as early work on GSA's expanding sustainability initiatives. In this role, I recognized there were many stories going untold due to the lack of video story-telling capabilities. So in early 2009, I introduced the use of video to expand and amplify GSA's messages to customers and the American public, and in early 2010, created the agency's first broadcast news production team. Key accomplishments/activities:- Traveled extensively with the Administrator to capture the GSA story in various locations across the U.S., creating broadcast quality news stories in near real-time, several of which were picked-up by national news outlets- Developed and launched innovative “Leadership in a Minute” video series featuring the GSA Administrator and other top “C-Suite” agency leaders- Serving as the office’s de facto news director, worked closely with GSA public affairs staff across the country to create and execute video production projects to promote agencywide, business line, regional, and service/staff office initiatives- While serving primarily in a video production role, continued to manage multiple “traditional” public affairs and marketing communications projects for GSA clients- Led a team of five production specialists
Video News Producer
In an incredibly complex and deadline driven environment, I wrote, produced, voiced and filed a minimum of four international video news stories each day for the world's leading newswire service and anchored AP radio network newscasts. Specific accomplishments/activities:- As AP Network News Anchor, selected content, wrote news copy, and edited sound bites for live worldwide broadcast. Importantly, when the U.S. invaded Iraq in March 2003, I was the News Anchor on duty and was responsible for leading all top- and bottom-of-the-hour AP worldwide newscasts about the invasion- As on-the-scene AP reporter, covered one of the DC-area sniper shootings during Fall 2002- Prepped for and interviewed world leaders, celebrities and other newsmakers

Bush and Sen. John Warner), newsmakers and top celebrities- Tracked, researched, wrote and edited local and breaking news stories- Trained part time reporters- Produced written stories for website and local newspaper
Assistant Director, Parks And Recreation
I was responsible for marketing, managing, and executing multiple special events and athletic and non-athletic programs; managing the department's budget; and supervising a full- and part-time staff of approximately 100. Key accomplishments/activities: - Planned, marketed and managed more than 100 special events and programs annually. Assessed community/market needs, conceived and managed all programs, and created and implemented marketing plans for all activities- Drafted and managed the department's annual budget, which saw an approximate 20 percent expansion during my tenure- Actively managed the department's move to new facilities; consulted with architects and builders on facility design and construction- Trained, supervised, and evaluated all full-time, part time and volunteer staff- Managed the department's information technology transformation
