I have been an entrepreneur since birth, starting my first "handyman business" at the age of fifteen. Since then I have created and worked for several small businesses and non-profit boards. I received a BS in Finance and an MS in Accounting, both from the University of Colorado. I am a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) and Chartered Global Management Accountant (CGMA). I spent the first five years of my career at Deloitte. During my time there I worked primarily with larger clients doing risk assessments, developing audit plans, auditing 10-K and 10-Q filings as well as serving as team lead on a $3.8 billion IPO. From there I went to a fledgling startup helping R&D companies secure government funding. After much dissension among the partners and several failed restructurings, I re-founded the struggling company with the one remaining partner. With innovation, and vision (and too many hours to mention) my team and I were able to reshape and transform the company from a struggling startup to a stable and profitable small business providing outsourced accounting services to other small business. After 5 years working with small businesses, I returned to the corporate world, joining SM Energy, a small oil and gas company headquartered here in Denver. After 3 years managing a team of approximately 50 accountants, and drastically reshaping my departments, I return to the entrepreneurial journey, armed with new industry and management experience and a renewed sense of purpose.
