Jarren holds a Bachelor of Psychological Science with First-Class Honours from The University of Queensland (UQ) and a Bachelor of Design, majoring in Visual Communication and Visual Culture, from Griffith University. Currently, he is pursuing a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) at UQ, where he has been awarded a scholarship within the Understanding and Overcoming Community Roadblocks to Achieving Net Zero research program, and is a member of the Net Zero Observatory research team led by Prof. Matthew Hornsey. Additionally, Jarren serves as a Research Assistant within UQ’s School of Psychology and is a Climate Reality Leader with The Climate Reality Project.With over 20 years of experience in the design industry, Jarren has worked with several creative agencies, developing marketing collateral for a wide range of clients in the public and private sector. In 2011, he founded Design Good Design Studio, where he spent over a decade specialising in creating impactful campaign communications for social change organisations (e.g., Amnesty International, Australian Conservation Foundation, Change.org, GetUp!, WWF). Much of this work focussed on campaigns related to addressing climate change.Throughout his career, Jarren has also directly campaigned with prominent environmental organisations such as Greenpeace, Friends of the Earth, and Market Forces. His experience in communications, campaigning, and activism now informs his PhD research, where he applies theories and methods from social and environmental psychology to study public perceptions of climate protests. His work aims to inform effective strategies for creating social change.
