My approach to college essays is through great storytelling. With today's incredible applicants and highly competitive environment, an essay is where students and application readers can connect on a deeper level. Drawing from my artistic background as a graduate of Columbia's Fiction and Translation MFA program and with my time as an electronic musician, I work closely with my students to craft beautiful stories that touch on the emotional aspect of the college experience. Past students have been admitted to Rice, Duke, Carnegie Melon, UCLA, Yale, and other elite programs.

Teaching creative writing and critical thinking to middle school and high school students. In accordance with JAC's holistic teaching philosophy, I guide my students to see creativity and scholarship as a way of living purposefully.

-Selected to be one of eight to teach a fiction workshop to undergrads. Independently developed a syllabus, lesson plans, and writing exercises to teach an introductory fiction workshop of twelve students. Emphasis on radical self-experimentation, critical thinking, and empathy. -Developed teaching methodology focused on peer-to-peer and student-lead discussions.-Explored outside traditional university canon with a reading list highlighting women writers, queer writers, and writers of color. -Tailored instruction to student’s individual needs and interests, through one-on-one conferences.

-Created safe spaces for minority writers, who often struggle to find community in MFA-programs.-Solicited Whiting Award winner Alice Sola Kim and Buzzfeed Editor Saeed Jones as our Writers-in-Residence, with in-person writing conferences with members of Our Word. -Produced panel discussions, with guests including Jia Tolentino, Puja Patel, and Jin Auh

-Coordinated grant writing to fund the Columbia Journal and our events. -Collected, read, and processed submissions from incarcerated people for our Prison Outreach Program, an effort to expand literary opportunities to incarcerated communities.

I write and research the monthly newsletter. My newsletter covers topics from dive physiology to environmental science for a general Scuba audience. I also produce web content for the shop for dive travel and equipment. Sometimes I even teach people to breathe underwater.
