Open Targets is an innovative open-source, large-scale, multi-year, public-private partnership that uses human genetics and genomics data for systematic drug target identification and prioritisation.As the back-end team lead I am responsible for the:- Design, development and management of ETL pipelines using Scala and Spark running on Google Cloud Platform’s (GCP) Dataproc to process large bioinformatic datasets in consultation with subject matter experts- Development and maintenance a GraphQL API running on Play Framework backed by Clickhouse and Elasticsearch- Deployments of a global infrastructure presence using Terraform running on GCP- Improving developer tooling such as testing infrastructure to improve data quality and developer productivity.- Recruitment and workload prioritisation- Creating documentation and informational material such as blog posts and technical documentation.

The application is responsible for the management and analysis of globally distributed data so that end users can perform research without having to worry about the location and management of underlying resources.

This consultancy involves being situated within the Zanzibar Planning Commission, providing ‘in-house’ support to the Revolutionary Government of Zanzibar as they develop and implement a public-private partnership framework. My responsibilities include producing economic and legal documents; identifying, appraising and documenting potential projects; and designing and delivering capacity building on behalf of the Ministry of Finance and Planning.

Starting with the Department as a graduate in 2010, I gained experience across secretariat, policy and program areas in the resources and energy sector. Following the graduate program I moved into a permanent role in the Resources division. My work included policy analysis related to the resource sector, grants administration in the solar sector, and program work with the offshore oil and gas sector.
