I am making the change to broadcast journalism after more than a decade in newspapers. I work as part of a small team in Kalgoorlie to deliver daily news bulletins from across the Goldfields-Esperance region, while also filing stories for ABC online and television.

The Kalgoorlie Miner is WA's only regional daily newspaper. As a reporter, I spent time covering various rounds in the general newsroom and sports department. News rounds included education, police, local government, politics, industry and resources. I had many articles published by the company's sister newspaper The West Australian. I was chief of staff between 2012 and 2014 and had stints as acting editor.

The Australian Army Reserve is a part-time job but I deployed to the Solomon Islands in 2011 as part of Operation Anode. The Regional Assistance Mission Solomon Islands (RAMSI) was a multi-national peacekeeping force led by Australia. I was posted as a rifleman/signaller into a platoon of Tongan marines who were part of the contingent.I completed a second deployment in 2014-15 as part of Operation Resolute, where I was posted to navy and customs vessels as part of the Australian Government's border protection operation. During the six-month deployment I was posted to Armidale class patrol boats HMAS Ararat, Broome and Pirie while I also served on the mine hunter HMAS Huon. While working with customs I was aboard the ACV Ocean Shield.

Worked as part of a small team to produce a weekly community newspaper every Friday.
