Profile bio

About Jarrod Lowery

My name is Jarrod Lowery, I live and breathe video games in any form on any device, literally anything that involves games I am interested in. Priding myself on being an active player of games and ensuring that I focus on developing games as well. My personal view is that to make great games you need to know how they work from both sides, you can learn so much by just playing a game.My experience is small, but having worked in teams for multiple projects such as Burn, Automata, Flavourverse, World of Love and Saldo. Most of these titles have been for PC, however Automata was produced for iOS and Burn was ported to Android (personal use). I have knowledge in understanding the pipelines and how the flow works. There is a quote in which says that "knowledge is power", in the games industry this can not be more accurate. I believe that no matter your skill level that you can learn something new and it will help make you better at your chosen profession. For one to understand their craft they must know the basics and never stop learning on top of those fundamental skills. My skill set involves numerous tasks but with in the games industry it specializes in C# coding, game design, narrative composition, leadership, business skills, project management and game development. Over the years having jobs that aren't relevant to my field, this is allowed me to come out of my shell and be an outgoing person with customers as well as team members. Through learning about different work cultures and gain a vast skill base in areas that may not directly correlate with my focus career path, they have given me an insight on how to do things differently.

Listed skills include Video Games, Unity3D, Level Design, Maya, and 18 others.

I was fortunate to be given Team leader position, which I had to turn over 3 quarters of the way through the project due to personal problems. In the opening few weeks of the design phase, we as a team sat around and thought about current games at the time that really captivated us and what was popular also. Pokemon and League of Legends were to things that came to mind, which was a chance for us to create something cool. During the process it was difficult trying to make sure everyone was able to work on something and maintain that constant workflow, but I believe in the end we got there. With a few headaches trying to work out networking for two iPads and allowing them to communicate on rapid basis was very time consuming but we accomplished it. The game was essentially summed up in the slogan for the game called Aquire, Assemble and Automate. We tried to build it to the point where the player was able to play the game with out anyone having to show them what to do, the player had to obtain some of the gear by opening packs which gave the player equipment to use. Then the player was to create a 'bot' by piecing together different styles of equipment such as head, torso, arms, legs which had special stats and moves. Which led the player to the next screen which was to choose whether to fight against AI or another player with their own personal bot built. During the play, it was turn based fighting which each player had to do a mini game to try and do the most damage. For example one ability was trying to touch as many flying gems that flew across the screen, if you hit them all it would do critical damage. Each part of their bot had a certain amount of health, which once it was destroyed it was no longer usable in the current battle, however it could be repaired later for a cost. The winner was then able to receive a generous amount of coins. Show less

Having the game be placed into a world the had universes called Pirate Universe, Slime Universe, Sports Universe and Alien Universe as well as the most important Flavourverse, it provided a challenge in what children aged between 6-15 actually enjoy whilst still promoting a healthy image.Developing a Design Document that was used as a Bible for the rest of the project was a big task but was needed to be done. It had turned out really well and much more relevant to the project then I had anticipated.I also helped out the Tech side of the project to work as a team developing more knowledge on the side of learning C# language. Also allowed me to attend Supernova 2012 Melbourne to showcase our game and gather valuable information, also allowed me to learn a handful of useful tips on QA (Quality Assurance).
