Marine Engineering Superintendent responsible for ensuring that routine maintenance and defects are resolved in a timely manner on vessels under my remit, and that all aspects of vessel certification remain current.My folio consists of the PLA’s salvage vessel ‘LONDON TITAN’, two multicats, a motor tug, and a fleet of RIBS, dories and Cutters fitted with various means of propulsion including waterjets, sterndrives and conventional drive arrangements. I am also responsible for the certification and maintenance of forty dumb barges and pontoons and four piers.My role requires me to stay current with local, National and International regulatory framework. I also maintain CPD and professional memberships as a surveyor with IIMS, IMAREST and IOSH.

Marine surveyor managing the vessel licensing department within the Port of London Authority in support of our compliance with the Port Marine Safety Code. I was an active surveyor undertaking compliance surveys on Inland Waters vessels under the Thames Freight Standard, Inland Waters Small Passenger Boat Code, and surveys under the MCA Codes of Practice for commercial vessels under 24metres. We also undertake Safety Management System audits in accordance with the PLA Code of Practice, DSMC and ISM.A member of the MCA working group revising the Workboat and Pilot Boat Code in 2014 which led to the publication of Edition 2.

Deputy Marine Surveyor working within the Harbour Master’s Department inspecting and licensing approximately 700 commercial vessels annually including inflatable rescue boats, dumb barges up to 1500gt, tugs, passenger boats, freight vessels and tankers. Working closely with the Harbour Master teams throughout the 95 miles of the tidal Thames, I was heavily involved in drafting and reviewing byelaws, General Directions and guidance which had the potential to impact licensed vessels. As a team we also actively engaged in the consultation processes with stakeholders.In August 2011 we achieved Certifying Authority status from the Maritime and Coastguard Agency enabling the PLA to undertake SCV Coding Surveys for Category 0 to 6 areas of operation. The authorisation allowed the PLA to provide a "one-stop-shop" for both Inland and sea going vessel operators.In 2013 whilst working together with Industry, I co-authored the Thames Freight Standard setting out the technical standards required for Inland Waters vessels operating on the Thames. The Standard is recognised as an equivalent to UK Statutory Instruments for Class IX (A) vessels through MGN469.In addition to undertaking surveys and Safety Management audits, I managed the vessel databases for both PLA licensed and MCA Coded vessels registered with the PLA.

Promoted to Health and Safety Officer at the Port of London Authority dealing primarily with compliance requirements of the HSE and MCA. Involved in accident and near miss investigations, and Risk Assessments on a multitude of vessels and land based sites that the Authority own and/or operate.Assisted the Marine Department in the development of safe working procedures and training manuals. Presented H&S toolbox talks and short courses on specialised subjects such as lifting operations.Part of my role was promoting water safety to secondary school children utilising the PLA’s purpose built Riverside Code trailer.In 2007 I was part of a small team tasked with achieving accreditation for LRQA 18001 standard in Health & Safety. This was successfully completed in 2009.

My career covered all aspects of fishing activities in large and small vessels, including owning and managing my own commercial fishing vessels. During my career I obtained a number of maritime qualifications including MCA Class II Fishing CoC, and was heavily involved with the Seafish Industry Authority in the testing and promoting of lifejackets for the fishing industry.
