Dreaming big has never been an issue for Pink Defying Gravity, Inc., founder and Executive Director Jarvis Daughrity, a native of Jackson, MS. Dedicated to helping improve the lives of others, Jarvis is an educator in the secondary setting. Jarvis received a Bachelor’s of Arts in English from Baylor University in 2004, and a Master’s of Education Administration from Grand Canyon University in 2011. Pink Defying Gravity, Inc. was born out of the everyday challenges Jarvis saw students facing in and outside of the classroom. It is difficult being a young adult in the 21st century, and she wanted to create an organization that would equip young women with the tools necessary to navigate young adulthood. The self-esteem and self confidence of young girls takes a nosedive around the age of twelve, and Jarvis wanted to provide a community for girls to feel special, loved, and unique. As an active member of her community, she is fully involved with the – Junior League of North Harris and South Montgomery Counties, Inc., and Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated. Jarvis has been featured as a guest speaker at the Communities in Schools: Heart of Texas Youth Conference, and the AP College Board’s “A Dream Deferred” Conferences. Jarvis currently resides in Houston, TX and continues to be a mentor and resource for youth and her fellow colleagues.
