The purpose of my role is to deliver emergency and urgent care to a wide range of patient groups. Appropriate patients are assessed and treated at the point of contact or referred on to another healthcare provider. Where necessary, I convey patients to treatment centres, hospitals and emergency departments according to their needs.I work as an independent practitioner as well as alongside registered Paramedicsor other suitably qualified members of staff in the provision of high quality effective clinical care, including the transportation of patients.My key responsibilities include;- Communicating effectively with patients, colleagues, the public and others in order to elicit information about the patient and their health problem/needs, whilst maintaining confidentiality - Adopting and adapting communications styles to meet the needs of the patient and/or carers- Responding as a crew to emergency calls and conveying patients to treatment centres, hospitals or emergency departments as and when appropriate. This involves using blue light driving skills as appropriate- Acting at all times in the best interest of the patient. - Completing and submitting all necessary reports and notifications as well as contemporaneous clinical records- Administering prescription only medicines where necessary- Making informed reasonable decisions about care delivery and/or options for alternative treatment/ appropriate care pathways including the referral of patients to other healthcare professionals for ongoing treatment and/or follow up

My work involved a shift pattern consisting of days, nights and weekends. I worked both independently and as part of a team to cover the hospital's cannulation and venepuncture needs. This role included;- Covering the Accident and emergency department to ensure that patients were cannulated and samples of their blood were taken correctly and sent to the laboratory promptly to enable the doctors and nurses to receive results and begin treatments swiftly- Independently covering all the wards in the hospital overnight- Communicating with the nurses and doctors to ensure enough information was received to enable the tasks to be prioritised accordingly- Adapting to the busy and ever changing workload, and prioritising incoming tasks during busy/night shifts- Responding to contact via a bleeper system for routine cannulation jobs- Attending any and all cardiac arrests within the hospital to provide Intravenous access for the patients in this situation

My role within this organisation involved:- Investigating complaints relating to cruelty or neglect using TAILS, a database system accessed via a palmtop device to receive, update and complete jobs daily- Giving animal welfare advice and warning notices where appropriate- Gathering evidence, taking witness statements, conducting interviews and compiling case files for prosecutions- Working within the confines of legislation relating to animal welfare- Building and maintaining good working relationships with local veterinary surgeries, RSPCA branches, animal centres and other agencies- Using Microsoft programs in order to compile reports and complete files- Completing monthly paperwork including expenses and vehicle mileage and keeping to tight deadlines- Attending regular training to ensure compliance with legislation and changing policy and practice- Rescue or collection of sick, injured or trapped wild and domestic animals while keeping health & safety in mind
