As a hands-on senior manager at NetApp, I managed a team responsible for providingdatabase delivery, support, architecture and engineering services for internal andexternal-facing NetApp databases. The team managed over 400 databases on Oracle, SQLServer and MySQL database platforms on both traditional data center, external and internalcloud configurations.I helped NetApp overcome many challenges that existed in the company’sdatabase community by improving automation, increasing the skills of the database community and improving cross-department communications.Another challenge facing NetApp was that DBA’s were scattered throughout the company withno communication or established standards. I brought all of these DBA’s under one team that Imanaged, created strong communication channels, organized the team members into welldefined roles and groups, and fostered a team culture of partnership and knowledge sharing.When the team needed to grow, I leveraged my strong technical background to ensure that ahigh quality of skills were maintained within the team. As a result of these efforts, the team isnow recognized throughout the company as being a highly motivated, results-oriented teamdriven to help NetApp succeed.The improved organization, processes and team spirit that I created paid great dividends. In2010 the team had nearly 150 critical incident tickets. Each year thereafter the number ofcritical tickets were reduced in half and since 2015 there have been zero critical tickets.During my tenure I architected the design for and directed my team to implement the databaseinternal cloud used at NetApp. This solution consisted of both Oracle and SQL Server shareddatabase platforms on a fully automated storage architecture. The creation of the databaseinternal cloud resulted in significant savings to NetApp while dramatically improving upon thetime to deliver.

My roles at Chevron included being a senior Oracle DBA, database architect, project manager,customer interface, developer, tester and support for their SAP environment consisting of over140 databases ranging in size from 250 GB to 8 TB. I created the vision and strategy for mostof the database automation that Chevron utilized in order to streamline their databaseoperations which freed up their staff to work on more strategic and project related work.Accomplishments● I was recognized at Chevron as being the the resident expert in many areas ofdatabase support including backup/recovery, disaster recovery, performance tuning,auditing, user/role management and space management.● Extensively involved with database performance tuning. These efforts frequentlyinvolved building efficient indexes and adjusting CBO statistics often resulting in a 99%reduction of query run time.● Regularly trained Chevron employees and contractors on a wide range of Oracletopics. I have created and delivered training materials to new employees, interns,overseas employees and outsourced partners.
