About Jasmeet Kang

An undergraduate student who is very passionate about studying law. My future endeavors include going to law school after I am done my degree at the University of Waterloo. Throughout my career so far, I have been given a lot of opportunities that have advanced my skill-set as a student and as a future employee. Currently, I am a co-founder of a virtual justice club that reaches out to students in Ontario who are interested in the legal field, our club has held many virtual events and has given an opportunity to many undergraduate students to join our team. Instagram handle @ontariovjep. To add on, since I started at the University of Waterloo I have been involved in many different things on campus such as legal club, orientation leader, and a conversation partner program. Furthermore, with my current employment at the University, it has helped to advance my skills as an individual/ I have been assigned administrative roles at both the Library and Resident desks, which include communicating with many different people (students, faculty, community members), I have also handled cash transactions, and have learned to work under pressure and during very busy times independently. I believe that I have many traits of a leader and am always open to improving as well.

Our justice system protects the rights and freedoms of everyone. In order for all of us to exercise these rights and freedoms – and truly access justice – it is important that we fully understand exactly how our system works and how it is here to help protect us and our families. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀It is also equally important that those aim to work within the justice system, including judges, lawyers, police officers and other personnel, are aware of the justice-related issues faced by people in our communities. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀This program will share information and knowledge about the Justice system, be a community for those that are interested in widening their knowledge, and additionally advocate for justice. What to look forward to: Mentorship for students that want to pursue a career in law, opportunities to use their skills and knowledge (mock trials, debates, table talk, etc.) and be a part of student community.
