This city board provides oversight of the Delano Police Department. We work to foster accountability and transparency by voicing community concerns, reviewing internal investigations, and providing recommendations of policies and procedures. I was appointed by Vice Mayor Veronica Vasquez, and I am honored to serve those in my hometown community.

Fellows receive 14 weeks of free data analytics training, led by world-class teaching staff from top universities. In my role, I coordinated case management with students, families, and administrators. My focus was on ESL (English as a Second Language) students and mixed-status families who are faced with a unique set of challenges under COVID-19 and the transition to remote learning. I also served as a Bakersfield College support teacher for 9th grade students in the Associate’s degree program. As the campus reopened in the spring, I provided tutoring and classroom management assistance for 9th-12th grade students who were failing one or more graduation requirements.

As a part of the CRLA team, I assisted two programs. With the COVID-19 relief program, I interviewed low-wage workers in rural areas across California to assess their legal needs related to COVID-19. I recorded these intakes in LegalServer and reviewed client cases with attorneys and community workers. With the LGBTQ+ program, I examined Public Records Act reports from educational institutions in Stanislaus county to track school discipline and LGBTQ+ student inclusion practices.

In 1997, the Law Academic Outreach Resource Center launched the Law Fellows Program. This program is designed to encourage and prepare high-potential undergraduate and graduate students for a career in law, increase the pipeline of diverse students interested in law, and demystify the law school experience.The program format is made up of several components, and includes a series of Saturday Academies held at the law school. These academies offer professional-level instruction by UCLA Law faculty in which Law Fellows are exposed to cases and a variety of other materials taught in law school.

I was responsible for engaging CSRE majors and minors in race-related events & programs that advance their knowledge of relevant race-related issues outside of the classroom space. To do this, I implemented CSRE hosted programs as well as, worked with the larger campus community in order to sponsor and co-host any already existing workshops, teach-ins, rallies, etc. Lastly, I identified resources and created networks for our majors and minors by working with different organizations and reaching out to our network of alumni.

In this role, I organized with fellow ETAs to win an ongoing Equitable Pay Campaign, start a speaker series known as Centering Afro-Latinx voices to address anti-blackness in the Latinx community, directed a Family Weekend showcase with student performers and a Bay Area DJ group, Chulita Vinyl Club, managed pre assignee students who gave theme presentations each quarter about the dorm theme, and supported Residential Assistants with community care for all residents in the dorm.

Under the supervision of the Office of the Vice Provost for Student Affairs, Faces of Community is a New Student Orientation (NSO) program that aims to introduce new freshmen and transfers to the diversity of the Stanford community and the unique and varied personal stories and identities of current students. Responsible for interviewing student speakers and performers, collaborating with NSO officials, and organizing and executing the storytelling program displayed to 1700+ students, residential staff, and administration.

Work with various suppliers to order produce for 50-person student house on campus. Responsibilities include maintaining house kitchen, educating residents on general food and kitchen safety, coordinating with house financial manager and fellow kitchen manager, understanding the wants and needs of the community (i.e. dietary restrictions, food allergies), and operating feedback systems to implement suggestions from residents. I also work to cultivate house culture and perform logistical duties as part of an 8-person student staff team.

This summer I will help the newly opened Bakersfield office with litigation and policy campaigns to defend and advance immigrants’ rights and just and equitable policing in Kern County. For policing, that work will include advocacy and research on excessive force, racial profiling, civilian oversight and police discipline, surveillance, unlawful stops and searches, and other issues identified by the Staff Attorneys and the ACLU SoCal Police Practices team. For immigrants' rights, that work includes addressing unlawful immigration enforcement practices, implementation of SB54 (California Values Act), and immigration detention center conditions at Mesa Verde.

Central Valley Scholars is a nonprofit program that aims to bring more POC, undocumented, first-generation, low income, and Queer students from the Central Valley into universities through workshops, mentorships, and scholarships. We are also fundraising for the first ever Queer Scholarship in the Central Valley.In my roles, I facilitate teamwork and recruit volunteers to serve as workshop facilitators, panelists, and college mentors. This summer our team will be hosting four workshops in the Valley as we work on finalizing more and the mentorship program.
