When I was 16 years old, I had the opportunity to shadow an OB/GYN physician for the first time. Always intrigued by the human body and its function, shadowing showed me the importance of the interpersonal aspects of medicine as well as the intersection of race, environment, and advocacy in medical care. There are numerous health disparities that disproportionately affect Black women and minority communities, and this is where I want to focus my medical career. My goal in pursuing a career in healthcare is to be an advocate for health equity and an agent for change in medicine. As a part of my journey, in the spring of 2022, I was named a PASS Scholar at The University of Pennsylvania's Perelman School of Medicine. Through this program, I will have the opportunity to conduct research for two summers prior to having the opportunity to matriculate into The University of Pennsylvania’s medical school, Perelman School of Medicine. As I continue to pursue my career, my commitment to equalizing health care and increasing awareness of women’s health issues continues to grow and remains a driving force for my pursuit.
