I served as a Trustee on the CLPE board for two years representing Southwark Council. The CLPE is an independent UK charity with a global reputation for the quality of our research into literacy and teaching. Our work promotes high standards in the teaching of literacy. It emphasise the importance of books and literature in enabling children to become confident, happy and enthusiastic readers and writers, with all the benefits this brings.

Working with Patient Opinion to create an independent feedback site for adult social care. Funded by the Department of Health, Innovation Excellence and Strategic Development Fund, the programme will extend the service presently delivered by the Patient Opinion website, where patients and carers can anonymously share the story of their experience of health services. These stories are sent to the appropriate staff member, who can respond to the patient and use feedback to improve services.

Jasmine Ali worked as a consultant at LGiU on projects designed to improve public services and strengthen local democracy.Projects include work on: early intervention for families, social media and citizen engagement, narrowing the attainment gap in education and support for children in care

• Six-month secondment to provide the link between the DfES and local government• Based within the Children’s Workforce Unit – Information Sharing and Assessment Division • Developed a stakeholder management strategy and plan for the DfES ISA division• Set up and co-ordinated initiatives for better working relations between the DfES ISA and local government including national advisory group and pan-London joint DfES/ALG group.

• Worked for Westminster Council Social and Community Services Senior Management Team based at ALG where I led the London Asylum Seekers Consortium (LASC)• Coordination and design of policy and process for 33 London Boroughs on all aspects of asylum support • Direct negotiation with Home Office on the funding streams and grants for local government involvement with asylum seekers• Work in partnership with the Department of Health on strategic development of services for unaccompanied asylum seeking children• Liaison with the independent sector in the procurement and monitoring of services commissioned for asylum seekers• The development and maintenance of information systems on all aspects of asylum support for the London Boroughs and the Regional Asylum Seekers Consortium • Managed a team of policy officers, communications officer, procurement managers, service managers, information and placement officer and senior finance managers • In 2002 I submitted a bid to the Treasury to fund a National Register for Unaccompanied Asylum Seeking Children, establishing a coherent data system to underpin quality services

• Developed services for asylum seekers and ran a budget of £20m• Played active role on the Social & Community Services Senior Management Team and leading role in the strategic development of partnerships across the council• Worked on the Kosovo Programme with the Local Government Association (LGA), the ALG and the Refugee Council, where I played a leading role in the development of an emergency operation responsible for airlifting refugees from the Albanian border during the Kosovo crisis
