• Functional study of Lhx6 gene, a transcription factor that is important for the development of subclasses of cortical interneurons. The approach included: finding downstream genes regulated by Lhx6 using RNA microarray analyses and in situ hybridization comparing wild type and knockout brain tissues; investigating how Lhx6 gene is regulated by analyzing Lhx6 enhancer transgenic mice • Generation of cortical interneurons in vitro from primary neural stem cells and embryonic stem cells for regenerative purposes.• Characterizing novel small DNA enhancers that can label different types of neural stem cells in differentiated ES cells using lentiviral vectors.• Investigating efficiency of stem cells differentiation protocol by purifying fluorescent labeled neural stem cells (with FACS) and transplanting cells into mouse brains• Mentored one undergraduate and one high school student for summer research projects
