In a one-on-one preceptorship, I work under the guidance of a NICU RN to acquire the skills I will need to transition into a new graduate nurse. I work closely with my preceptor as I learn how to administer medications, perform newborn assessments, provide feedings for newborns, provide phototherapy, oxygen therapy, and perform diagnostic procedures. This role has allowed me to think critically and apply my knowledge of diverse disease processes. This preceptorship has given me the tools and foundation of nursing knowledge and skills necessary to begin my career, possibly as a NICU RN.
