After leaving school at 16 I went straight into employment, starting off part time in retail whilst studying A-levels full time in college. I then went on to working in domiciliary care full time for 2 years were I gained alot of skills working with people from all walks of life all with a range of care needs. I learned to be compassionate and empathetic. From there I was employed in a homeless accommodation that provided 24-7 support to clients to help them gain the skills and knowledge needed to move onto the next stage in life, such as starting training or employment and successfully sustaining their own tenancy. I worked here for 3 years full time, then when I started in my current role I joined the relief bank picking up shifts in the evenings and in weekends.I am currently employed as a rent and income officer for a housing association, working closely with tenants ensuring rent is paid, rolling out recovery where needed and supporting with benefits. Using skills gained over years of working and supporting people I was able to easily fit into the role and build professional relationships with tenants aswell as the colleagues on my team.
