I spent a semester abroad to complete my Master’s thesis at the University of Granada, Spain; my work involved the production and the biophysical characterisation of a chimeric miniprotein inhibiting HIV-1. I am now working as Doctoral Researcher at the Institute of Epigenetics and Stem Cells / Helmholtz Pioneer Campus, Helmholtz Zentrum München, Germany.Outside the lab, I am passionate about learning foreign languages: I can fluently speak Italian (my mother tongue), English, and Spanish. I have some knowledge of German, French, and Portuguese, too, which I am planning to broaden. My work as a waitress – that was rather a necessity in order to finance my own academic studies – surprisingly allowed me to gain some essential skills that proved to be useful also in a scientific environment: I learned how to work in a dynamic team and how to solve upcoming issues in a relatively short time; also, I became very versatile and capable of facing difficulties always with a proactive attitude. These five years of academic education spent while working every weekend – even during holidays – have been tough, for sure, but they allowed me to grow strong, resilient, and determined to accomplish my goals.
