• Performs various laboratory tests and procedures while adhering to standard operating procedures on patient specimens to assist in the diagnosis, study and treatment, or prevention of disease.• Performs laboratory tests independently• Extracts/manipulates DNA from assorted specimen types• Performs PCR, hybridization, and genetic sequencing methods• Evaluates results to determine interference, inhibition or other problems that arise during extraction, amplification, or sequencing of DNA• Performs quality control, validation, and other quality activities to verify performance of clinical assays

- Labels and processes patient specimens accurately & distributes to appropriate areas of laboratory.- Processes laboratory samples according to procedure.- Centrifuges and prepares aliquots when needed.- Maintains specimen requirements at all times according to protocol.- Dispatches specimens to the main lab or other designated testing facility as per established procedure with fewer than two mislabeled specimens.- Prints appropriate labels for specimen labeling.- Ensures all tests on requisitions are accounted for in the ordering system.- Tracks every specimen to ensure specimen integrity, accounting particularly for those samples which must be transported to other locations with fewer than three occasions of errors involving maintaining specimen batches (opening, reconciling and closing).- Ensures specimens are processed according to specimen requirements & that all specimen requirements are met.- Ensures specimen requirements are maintained during transportation & storage as per protocol with fewer than two instances of processing & archiving errors.- Prioritizes & organizes activities to achieve optimal and efficient patient care during daily operations.- Maintains positive patient identification for all specimens collected, using defined protocols.- Maintains patient confidentiality throughout all activities and communications.

Prepare samples for analytical and microbiological testing of food products, ingredients, and environmentals. The role is responsible for the application of approved microbiological techniques and methodologies used in analytical testing.-Prepare samples for indicator organisms, pathogens, and chemistries-Apply aseptic techniques in daily workload-Perform quality control monitoring by taking incubator temperatures, inoculating control organisms, running media controls, etc.-Independently pursue an assigned series of processes, procedures, or techniques in accordance with FSNS policies/procedures and customer requirements-Demonstrates proper use of PPE-Verification and use of dispensers-Aseptically pour media into sterile petri dishes-Proper use of autoclave for media and equipment-Proper use of data loggers and recording autoclave information-Accurate completion of autoclave monitoring and sterility checks-Proper use and calibration of pH meter-Test pH levels for DiH2O, media and reagents and interpret results-Prepare cultures and perform all tasks associated for QC and sterility readings-Perform housekeeping duties in the cleanrooms and laboratory, including assigned monthly cleaning.

Manufactures blood and modifies blood components intended for transfusion, for further manufacturing and, for research purposes, labels blood products, packs recovered plasma products for further manufacture in accordance with current good manufacturing practices as required by the FDA, AABB and CBB, and, to meet the requirements of our external customers. Performs quality control processes on equipment and products as required. Other duties are as listed:- Receive whole blood units and apheresis components and evaluate for acceptable criteria.- Inspect and evaluate blood components to make sure they are safe, pure and potent. Secure components that do not meet the required criteria by physically separating, quarantining in IBBIS, and notifying management.- Process whole blood units into separate components through centrifugation and further manipulation.- Obtain QC samples and complete related paperwork for apheresis RBCs.- Operate a sterile connection device.- Filter blood components using in-line and/or dockable filters.- Manage quarantine areas for blood components, and handle quarantined components appropriately.- Properly enter blood components into LifeSouth’s blood banking software.- Manage the storage of blood components prior to and after component processing.- Perform general maintenance and cleaning of instruments and department in general.- Communicate department issues to the Components Team Leader and/or Components Supervisor
