About Jasmine Kasanke
I have my masters degree in science from the University of North Dakota with over 3 years of lab experience. I have skills in:Laboratory: microscopy, Biomek Fxp Liquid Handling Robot, ChIP, Quantitative Real-Time PCR, RNA/DNA purification, ATAC-Seq, MNase Footprinting, Tissue and Cell Dissociation, cDNA Synthesis, Gel ElectrophoresisComputer: Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel), JMP, SPSSSoftware: R, PythonLanguage: Intermediate fluency in SpanishSince I was a little kid, I’ve had the desire to learn how things fit and work together. At first, I thought I wanted to use this passion to become an auto mechanic. My high school biology teacher changed that. She was enthusiastic about teaching the class and it was contagious. I realized I enjoyed learning the material and how things connect. Her passion ignited my passion for biology. After I graduated high school, I went to Bismarck State College. My professors were inspiring and helped me to confirm that Biology was my niche. I had initially planned to receive my associate’s degree in Arts, but I took enough science classes that I was able to receive two degrees. The second being an associate’s degree in science. After graduating from BSC, I continued my education at the University of North Dakota, where I excelled in my courses. The professors took notice, and when I confided that I didn't know what I was going to do after receiving my bachelor's degree, a wise professor suggested I pursue graduate school. Since the Biology department was so wonderful and welcoming, it was an easy choice and I pursued my master’s degree in molecular biology. My research in graduate school involved looking at epigenetic marks that are hypothesized to play a crucial role in transcriptional regulation at the embryonic level. To study this, I performed quantitative Real-time PCR to view gene expression in seven different tissue types in male and female snapping turtles. I also have experience performing and troubleshooting Chromatin Immunoprecipitation (ChIP). While graduate school was a wonderful and challenging adventure, I graduated in December 2019 and am now ready for the next chapter of my life to begin.
