PERSONAL STATEMENTI am in my first year as a Student Dispensing Optician completing the Fellowship Diploma in Ophthalmic Dispensing with the Association Of British Dispensing Opticians College. I am also an active member of several groups within Boots including the Pride Alliance, Women of WBA, Mental Health Wellbeing & Selfcare, Race Ethnicity & Cultural Heritage (REACH BRG UK) and UK Environmental Sustainability BRG. My plan is to complete my SDO within the 3 years, and progress further to Student Contact Lens Optician, and then Student of Optometry, which is my end goal. KEY ACHIEVEMENTSBoots Opticians (DIDCOT)APRIL 2022: After a few weeks of beginning as a Trainee Optical Consultant, I was chosen by my hub manager to be 1 of 5 people in the area to push and teach other team members on how to use a new payment method we had introduced. JUNE 2022: I set up an LGBTQ+ fundraiser in the break room to raise money for the charity Stonewall, marking 50 years of Pride, and I raised approximately £140.00 worth of donations. SEPTEMBER 2022: I was awarded with the year’s Best of the Best of Boots Award for Care (BOTB) for my fundraising efforts in June, and given a visit from my area manager. NOVEMBER 2022: I was fully qualified as an OC just shy of 7 months, completing my pre-screening, single and multifocal dispensing and contact lens qualifications. FEBRUARY 2023: Our area did a challenge to see who in each store would be able to do the highest amount of sales in 4 sections of business and I was successful in winning in all 4 sections, and was awarded a prize. MAY 2023: I travelled to Birmingham on a day off for a conference for OCs and clinicians which was full of education on a new lens we had launched, giving me information that I took back and discussed with my team. MAY 2023: We made a new record week in over 5 years, a few days later we made a new record day, and then beat the new record day a few days after that.FEBRUARY 2024 - MAY 2024: Successfully applied to the SDO course, joined the selection day in Bristol and passed the preliminary entrance exam with a mark of 70%.Boots Opticians (NEWBURY)JUNE 2024: Moved to the Newbury store full time to begin my role as an SDO in August.JUNE 2024: Completed Boots MacMillan Opticians Professional (BMOP) training which gives clinicians the tools and confidence to have conversations with their patients, giving them a greater understanding of topics associated with cancer and a greater understanding of the services that Macmillan offers.JUNE 2024: Became a member of The Macular Society.
